It is a requirement of any company that owns or manages electrical assets such as switchgear, transformers and associated protection systems, that not only are they maintained in a satisfactory and reasonable manner, but also when, in the event of a problem occurring, they function as they are intended.
Sadly all to frequently these days, it is all too easy to neglect electrical distribution maintenance, as cost and budget cutting takes precedence.
You may think that as it never has to operate and has never let the company down, that it will go on doing so.
This may be the case, but in the event of a fault occurring, you need to know that protection systems will operate and switchgear trips, to remove the possibility of catastrophic failure, which can in extreme cases result in injury, lost production with ensuing prohibitive costs being incurred.
